The White Plains Historical Society

284th Washington's Birthday Celebration

February 21, 2016 - White Plains, NY.

A larger than usual crowd gathered outside the Jacob Purdy House on a warm afternoon to celebrate George Washington's 284th Birthday at his onetime headquarters in White Plains during the Revolutionary War.

The short outside program included an honor guard, raising of the flag by Revolutionary War period re-enactors and the pledge of allegiance. President of the Historical Society John Vorperian presided.

President Vorperian acknowledged local politicians Mayor Tom Roach, and members of the Common Council Beth Smayda and Milagros Lecuona. President Vorperian thanked Historical Society Trustees and Members, White Plains Citizens and everyone else for attending.

Abigail Purdy in period dress invited to all enjoy birthday cake, cookies, and cider.

Our speaker was Rand Scholet, who spoke to a full house...twice! There were so many in attendance that Rand graciously agreed to give his presentation at 1:15 then again at 2:30. His topic was "Alexander Hamilton - Washington's Indispensable Partner", which was well received.

Admission was free.
